Literary Analysis . Gabe

What theme or themes does the author explore in the novel? Which passages in the text connect to theme?

It is evident that the real theme in the book is the importance of individualism, the idea of liberty, rights, or independent action of an individual. This idea is present through out the book, but one of the best quotes on this topic is when the main character Equality 7-2521 meets Liberty 5-3000 for the first time "Still, without reason, as we stood there by the hedge, we felt our lips drawn tight with hatred, a sudden hatred for all our brother men. And the Golden One saw it and smiled slowly, and there was in their smile the first sadness we had seen in them. We think that in the wisdom of women the Golden One had understood more than we can understand." This quote proves that for the first time Equality has feelings of his own, feelings of want, will, of desire. These feelings are not within the standards because not everyone feels these, for these are feelings of possession, in a community in where everyone shares. This is why some may say that this book includes the idea of individualism, because it speaks so much of freedom and independence.

  1. Gabe,
Your post is great. The themes you chose to explore were very relevant, and I agree with what you said. On the other hand, I think you could have added another visual source in order to expand on what you said, and maybe make a direct connection to the picture you included. But overall your post was great and I think you explained the themes really well and with enough evidence.
