anthem- part 5

In this role you are to serve as a literary analysis expert, generating a list of 4-5 examples of stylistic techniques (allusion, simile, metaphor, personification, alliteration, hyperbole, imagery, personification, repetition, flashback, foreshadowing, irony, oxymoron, symbol, diction/tone) used by the writer in the passage.  For each technique you will discuss 1) the meaning of the stylistic device 2) the effect on the story or reader.  Make sure you quote the line in the book that contains the literary technique, citing the page number in parentheses. Finally (and most importantly!) reflect on the literary element's significance within the context of this book. Add and properly cite two images to complement your post.

The word “We” is as lime poured over men, which sets and hardens to stone, and crushes all beneath it, and that which is white and that which is black are lost equally in the grey of it. Rand, Ayn (2013-03-27). Anthem (Kindle Locations 680-681). Start Publishing LLC. Kindle Edition.
This first quote is a metaphor, a very nice one. It is a metaphor because it is describing something with other words.

My happiness is not the means to any end. It is the end. It is its own goal. It is its own purpose. Rand, Ayn (2013-03-27). Anthem (p. 73). Start Publishing LLC. Kindle Edition.
Repetition is used here very well. With "it" repeating, this is called repetition.

It is my eyes which see, and the sight of my eyes grants beauty to the earth. It is my ears which hear, and the hearing of my ears gives its song to the world. It is my mind which thinks, and the judgement of my mind is the only searchlight that can find the truth. It is my will which chooses, and the choice of my will is the only edict I must respect. Rand, Ayn (2013-03-27). Anthem (p. 73). Start Publishing LLC. Kindle Edition.
This quote makes me feel like i hear the author. It is beautiful. Throught the book, the author uses great words and repetition.

When the sun sank beyond the mountains, the Golden One fell asleep on the floor, amidst jewels, and bottles of crystal, and flowers of silk. We lifted the Golden One in our arms and we carried them to a bed, their head falling softly upon our shoulder . Then we lit a candle, and we brought paper from the room of the manuscripts, and we sat by the window, for we knew that we could not sleep tonight. Rand, Ayn (2013-03-27). Anthem (p. 70). Start Publishing LLC. Kindle Edition.
Ayn Rand uses beautiful imagery, and i can see what the author is saying.

  1. Lucas, When reading your post I found some great good quotes but your explanation on your finding are very minimal. How do you think that the author (Ayn Rand) used this to transform the reader. For example your last quote would have a big impact on me or any other reader. The Author could just say the golden one fell asleep on the floor and I carried her to bed but instead the author made a beautiful and elaborate description that let the readers imagination flow from their mind and into their eyes.
